The Mental Health Technician (MHT) functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, interaction, and role modeling to patients ranging in age from children to adults depending upon which unit worked. The MHT leads psychoeducational groups & leisure activities with patients. The MHT provides patients with assistance with activities of daily living as needed including, but not limited to, assistance with meal time, toileting, bathing, and completion of laundry. The MHT functions effectively in crisis situations under the guidance of the charge nurse using verbal de-escalation skills, physical holds and/or mechanical restraints as needed. The MHT ensures the environment is safe for both patients and staff members through the use of safety rounds, patient flows, and milieu management techniques. Throughout the shift, the MHT completes all required documentation. MHT’s work under the direct supervision of a charge RN and Unit Nurse Manager.
