Our State College Branch is currently accepting applications for a full-time Child Care Director to be responsible for the supervision and direction of School Age Child Care Programs, Child Watch services, family events, and youth enrichment programs at the State College YMCA.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge, understanding, and following of PA Department of Human Services (DHS) regulations and YMCA of Centre County policies.
• Ensure all part-time child care staff have been properly trained to understand YMCA of Centre County policies, DHS regulations, PA Keystone STARS standards, and Environmental Rating Scale.
• Ensure the supervision of all children – defined by DHS as: to be physically present with a group of children - in which the staff can see, hear, direct, and access the children in their care.
• Gear all programs to the individual children with concern for their interests, special talents, individual style, and pace of learning. Create and implement a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and meets the individual needs of each child.
• Communicate with parents, children, and co-workers in an appropriate manner and ensure child assessments/portfolios are complete and parent/teacher conferences are held at appropriate times of the year.
• Manage the Child Watch program, including communicating with parents and staff and overseeing all aspects of the space used for the program, including but not limited to, safety, cleanliness, and occupancy/ratios of staff to children.
• Hire new staff as needed. Schedule, manage, and mentor existing Child Care, Child Watch, and Youth Program Staff. Evaluate employees on an annual basis, and complete payroll (approving timecards) for Child Care, Child Watch, and Youth Program Staff.
• Recruit volunteers for and lead the department in the Annual Giving Campaign.
• Develop, manage, and monitor the Child Care, Child Watch, and Youth Enrichment Program budgets and meet or exceed budget goals.
• Complete all administrative paperwork in a timely and organized manner.
• Complete 25 hours of direct service weekly, in which the employee is counted in ratio and replaces another paid staff.
• Perform additional duties at the request of the Branch Executive Director or other management staff.
Qualifications (should meet ONE of these criteria):
• Bachelor’s Degree in education or a human services field.
• Associate degree in education or a human services field plus 1 year of experience working with children - totaling a minimum of 1250 hours.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a non-human services field, 30 credits in education or human services, plus 2 years of experience working with children - totaling a minimum of 2500 hours.
• Associate degree in a non-human service field, 30 credits in education or human services, plus 3 years of experience working with children - totaling a minimum of 3750 hours.

• $15.86 - $17.78 per hour depending on experience.
