Job Description/Requirements

The State College YMCA is currently accepting applications for part-time Lifeguards to be responsible for upholding safety rules, YMCA policies, accident prevention, and emergency response at our indoor pools. Staff are needed to fill a variety of shifts throughout the week.
Primary Responsibilities
-Remain physically and mentally alert, taking a proactive approach to searching for distressed swimmers and hazards.
-Successfully communicate with youth and adults to enforce pool rules and schedules.
-Remain calm, respond effectively, and give clear directions in an emergency situation.
-Maintain safety of pool environment by removing hazards that could lead to injury in or around the pool deck and halting any dangerous behavior displayed by patrons.
-Responsible for helping clean the pool facility, including vacuuming the pool and other duties as assigned.
-Remain physically capable of completing the prerequisite swim test as specified by the American Red Cross to ensure ability to respond in an emergency situation.
Qualifications
-At a minimum, some high school level education is required.
-Current lifeguard certification or ability to obtain a certification.
Salary/Benefits
-$10.00 - $12.00 per hour depending on the nature of shifts worked (2 guard shifts, AM shifts, head guard responsibilities, etc.)
-$16.00 - $25.00 per hour if serving as a swim lesson instructor – for those interested and qualified.
-403(b) retirement program.
-Reimbursement of lifeguard certification cost if completed in-house and for the purpose of serving as a YMCA of Centre County lifeguard.
